WSPA and USD 259 make huge donation for kids

The Wichita School Psychological Association (WSPA) and Wichita Unified School District 259 recently came through for kids in a big way with a hefty donation 500 backpacks and duffle bags, along with hundreds of hygiene and ethnic hair items – enough to fill three vans.

After sorting and organizing the items, Saint Francis Foundation Development Officer Shaynna Brown estimates the donation’s total worth to be about $9,900.

“Our plan is to divide the donation up as much as possible,” said Shaynna. “We’ll store some items in the ‘Corner Closet’ currently under construction in the basement of the new Wichita office at Woodlawn. We also hope to open a smaller closet at the new Kid Zone in Wichita. Other items have been delivered to the Salina Otis Street office and to locations in Nebraska.”

Once the donation has been allocated, Shaynna said she will notify staff when they can begin collecting and distributing items for the children and families they serve.

This gift again illustrates the important role our community partners play in our Saint Francis mission to provide healing and hope to children and families.

A school cafeteria is filled with various donation items, including toiletries, cleaning supplies, clothes, and canned goods. Several tables are covered with items, and a few volunteers are organizing and sorting the donations.
