Family Check-Up®

Hope and Support for Families in Central Texas

Family Check-Up® is a brief, family-centered, and strengths-based approach to mindful parenting, tailored to family strengths and needs.

This program is specifically designed for families not involved in foster care or the child welfare system.

Saint Francis Ministries partners with families to identify and build upon their existing strengths so they can provide for the health and security of their children. We offer hope to families in crisis, helping them create opportunities for positive change before any involvement with foster care or child protective services becomes necessary.

How Family Check-Up® Works

Assessment & Goal Setting

  • Combines assessment with motivational interviewing to engage families in identifying strengths and areas for improvement in parenting.
  • Uses collaborative feedback and goal setting with parents to bridge to Everyday Parenting and other follow-up services as needed.

Everyday Parenting Curriculum

  • Provides parents with simple, practical parenting strategies to promote positive child development.
  • Offers session-based approach with three modules – positive behavior support, setting healthy limits, and building family relationships.

Services Delivered Directly in the Home

Family Check-Up® enables clinicians to directly observe families where members are most comfortable – at home. Interaction with family members within their “natural” setting makes it possible to directly intervene in unhealthy behaviors and to immediately reinforce positive, healthy life choices.
