Nearly 80 children in Ellis County will start the new year with smiles thanks to the Ellis County Toy Drive—an effort rooted in love, grief, and community spirit. What began in 2022 as a way for Carey Jordan to honor his late father has now become a lasting legacy after Carey’s own passing in 2023. Led this year by his mother, Lynette Rumpel, and a network of family, friends, and local partners, the drive gathered gifts, cash, and gift cards for 79 children in Big Brothers Big Sisters and foster care with Saint Francis Ministries. For Lynette, continuing the toy drive is both a tribute to her son’s generous heart and a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness.
