Saint Francis Ministries to honor Scheels for giving back to the Wichita community

Saint Francis Ministries is pleased to announce that the child and family services organization will honor Scheels® of Wichita on Wednesday, May 8, for the sporting goods store’s contributions to the local community.

Saint Francis Ministries staff will present a plaque of appreciation to Scheels employees during an 8 a.m. ceremony at the store at 7700 E Kellogg Drive.

“Saint Francis has had the pleasure of partnering with Scheels on multiple occasions, including our ‘Shop with a Cop’ event during the holidays,” said Shaynna Brown, development officer with the Saint Francis Foundation.

During “Shop with a Cop,” Scheels presented 10 teens with a $500 gift card, which they could use for Christmas shopping. Since youth in foster most often encounter police during difficult times in their lives, they partnered with a local officer to help build more positive connections with law enforcement.

“Scheels continues to do amazing things for the Wichita community and for the children in our care,” said Brown. Their donations of popular clothing brands items to kids in foster care helps youth feel confident and good about themselves. That in turn leads to happier teens and alleviates some of the financial stress on foster families. They’re a wonderful community partner, and they deserve to be recognized.”

Media are welcome to attend the ceremony. Inquiries may be directed to either Denny Marlin at 316.992.1852, or Shaynna Brown at 316.648.4934.
