The eighth installment of Saint Francis Ministries’ video series, “Conversations,” has just wrapped and is ready to view. Our newest episode, “Health Care Equity and Dignity,” features an engaging conversation about the Saint Francis Ministries’ commitment to health care equity through practice and training.
Fr. Andrew O’Connor, Executive Officer for Mission and Ministry, Chief Clinical Officer Amanda Pfannenstiel, and Director of Corporate Training Christy Sanders discuss how SFM educates employees about the importance of health care equity and its role in our mission. They also talk about a new initiative to make SFM training courses available to colleagues and partners for professional and personal development.
Health care equity sits at the heart of SFM’s work because we believe that every person deserves a fair and just opportunity to achieve their highest possible level of health. Reaching that goal requires more than clinical care alone. It demands attention to the conditions that shape health long before anyone enters a doctor’s office. It considers factors like economic stability, safe housing, education, access to nutritious food, and freedom from discrimination.
A key part of our commitment involves preparing our workforce to respond thoughtfully and effectively. Through ongoing professional development, employees deepen their understanding of cultural humility, systemic disparities, and equitable practices. This training equips staff at every level to better serve children and families with awareness, respect, and compassion.
