Compassion Plus Action

Compassion + Action … That’s the theme of this year’s National Social Work Month, and we can’t think of a better way to describe the way social workers help make life better each day for those they serve. Let’s face it, it’s a tough profession for tough people. Yet, they sign up for it because their deep compassion and desire to make the world better impels them. As the National Association of Social Workers says, “Social workers care about people. That is why so many people enter social work each year, making it one of the fastest growing professions in the United States … Social workers go through years of education and training so they can help individuals, families, communities and our society reach their full potential.”

It’s good to know that there are so many out there who want to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

At Saint Francis Ministries, we have lots of respect for social workers. Because they form the front line in our service to children and families, we see first-hand the challenges and sacrifices they face every day in their efforts to support the communities in which they serve and the lives they hope to change.

Yet they can’t do it alone. Saint Francis social workers collaborate closely with community partners, local businesses, and other nonprofit and governmental organizations to ensure that our neighbors living on the margins get the help they need to heal and find hope.

Without our foster, kinship, and adoptive families, we couldn’t keep kids safe and secure while they await permanency.

So, this month, we offer our appreciation and gratitude for the social workers in our community – and we thank those who support them in their life-affirming work.

Is there room in your day to thank a social worker? Is there room in your life to provide support? If so, consider becoming a foster parent and see firsthand what social workers can do: www.saintfrancisministries.org/foster-care/.
