It’s not easy being a single parent. You’re essentially doing the work of two, often working more than one job, while navigating childcare, health care, and plain old parental care. It leaves little room for self-care but plenty for strength and sacrifice.
That’s why it’s so appropriate to have National Single Parent Day in March.
Guided by a vision to transform lives and systems, that vision manifests through providing healing and hope to children and families. Single parents embody that spirit of transformation every single day. They are the providers, the nurturers, the homework helpers, the short-order cooks, the housekeepers, the bill payers, the disciplinarians, and the confidantes.
Saint Francis places great value on both traditional and non-traditional families because we believe that strong families make children’s lives better. A single-parent household is necessarily not a broken family; it’s just different, with its own unique set of challenges.
Deeply rooted in a tradition of advocacy for the dignity and worth of every individual, Saint Francis Ministries supports families in all their forms. Through programs such as foster care, Family Centered Treatment®, in-home prevention, and behavioral health services, we work to ensure that no parent ever has to feel alone on their journey.
If you are a single parent, know this: your effort is seen, your love is powerful, and you are not walking this road alone. And if you know a single parent, take a minute to remind them of the incredible work they do. Odds are, they’ll appreciate it.
