Saint Francis Ministries welcomes three new members to the Board of Directors

Saint Francis Ministries announces three new additions to the nonprofit’s Board of Directors to fill vacancies left by the Reverend Don Compier, Mark Bowers, and Kathy Howell, whose terms expired on June 30.

SFM’s new Board members are:

Elizabeth Bentrup

With more than 20 years in education, Elizabeth currently teaches at The Episcopal School of Dallas, where she chairs the Global Competency Council and coaches basketball. Her career spans classrooms from kindergarten to Zoom sessions with octogenarians during the pandemic, encompassing public and private school teaching, independent school leadership, coaching education students on both sides of graduation at the University of South Carolina, continuing education instruction, and roles in administration, advancement, and event planning. A TCU Horned Frog, she holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and a master’s in educational administration and leadership. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association.

Christy Martinez-Garcia

Christy Martinez-Garcia brings extensive experience in both corporate and nonprofit settings, having worked at the national and local levels. She currently serves as publisher and owner of Latino Lubbock Magazine, a bilingual publication reaching over 100,000 readers across the South Plains, and hosts Latino Lubbock Update, a weekly public affairs segment on the local CBS affiliate. She is also the founder of Los Hermanos Familia, a nonprofit dedicated to “Strengthening Families, Building Community.” She is serving her second term as the District 1 representative on Lubbock’s City Council. She also serves on several boards and commissions, including the South Plains Association of Governments, the Lubbock Metropolitan Planning

Organization, and the Electric Utility Board, and is the council representative to the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance.

Cheryl Rathbun

Cheryl joined Saint Francis over four decades ago as a social worker and therapist. A licensed specialist in clinical social work, she provided individual and family therapy and supervised social work and clinical services across Saint Francis’ outpatient, in-home prevention, case management, and residential facilities. She co-authored professional papers and presented at conferences focused on treatment for children and youth. As Saint Francis’ chief clinical officer, Cheryl provided strategic direction for Saint Francis’ clinical care initiatives – both nationally and internationally – and oversaw accreditation standards, operating procedures, risk management, performance improvement, and professional ethics for all program services.

Cheryl retired from Saint Francis Ministries after 45 years in August 2023. She has returned to her Saint Francis roots as a Board Member.
