National Superhero Day – Celebrating Everyday Heroes

Most heroes don’t wear capes – or Spandex. They simply show up.

National Superhero Day, celebrated each year on April 28, was created in 1995 by Marvel Comics to honor those who protect and inspire us. While the holiday began with comic book icons, it focuses on the real-life heroes among us – first responders, teachers, frontline workers, and the countless people who quietly change lives every single day.

At Saint Francis Ministries, we call them “Everyday Heroes.” They’re the foster, kinship, and adoptive parents, social workers, therapists, and support staff who give their time, energy, and hearts to help children and families heal.

As a Saint Francis resource worker and foster parent, Aubrey Jung sees firsthand what it takes to care for children who have experienced trauma. She’s worked the long days, had the difficult conversations, and witnessed the moments of grace that make the hard work worthwhile.

“It is hard work, but I see God working in every minute of it, and I’m grateful for a front-row seat,” she says.

Look for more about Aubrey and her colleagues as we go through the summer.

Aubrey and those like her don’t fly – but they help spirits soar. Their super-strengths are resilience and determination, and they are most powerful when they empower others. They help children heal, give hope to families in crisis, and build brighter futures for those who have known some of life’s darkest moments.

Yet even the most powerful heroes can’t do it alone. That’s where our friends come in.

Our foster, kinship, and adoptive parents keep kids safe and healthy.

Our community partners and financial supporters ensure that Saint Francis Ministries has the resources we need to support and empower Saint Francis staff who diligently work in our homes and communities.

We need them all.
