March will soon be upon us, which means Match Madness is right around the corner. Inaugurated in 2012 by the Greater Salina Community Foundation (GSCF), Match Madness is a one-day giving initiative that raises funds to provide long-term support for local nonprofits.
The event generates gifts to endowment funds for participating charities, helping ensure their sustainability for years to come. Over the years, Saint Francis Ministries has used these funds to support essential programs, including Salina West. GSCF also matches each donor’s gift proportionally – up to 50 percent – through an instant cash grant that charities can use for immediate needs, including special projects or basic operating expenses.
This year, SFM’s Match Madness funds have been earmarked for our Youth Residential Center in Salina.
Last year’s event raised $1.1M was raised for 103 local nonprofits, including Saint Francis Ministries. Proceeds benefited the Playscape Project at Salina West. Over the years, Match Madness has proven a fun and easy way to support the children and families Saint Francis serves.
The theme for Match Madness 2026 is “15 Years of Love and Gratitude.” The event will take place on March 12, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Salina Fieldhouse. As in past years, Saint Francis will host a booth at the event, and SFM’s Chief Financial Officer, Matt Fuqua, will serve as our free-throw shooter.
