Celebrating siblings, the longest bond

Every April 10, we mark National Siblings Day and one of life’s most enduring relationships, the bond between brothers and sisters. Few know us like our siblings; they’ve seen both our best and our worst. They know our origin story because they’ve shared it. As writer Ann Hood says, “A sibling is the lens through which you see your childhood.”

At Saint Francis Ministries, we understand just how powerful that bond is and how heartbreaking it can be when it’s threatened.

For more than eight decades, Saint Francis Ministries has worked to bring healing and hope to children and families through programs like foster care, adoption, behavioral health services, Family Centered Treatment®, Independent Living, and in-home prevention. Central to all of this work is the notion that keeping relationships intact matters deeply, especially for children navigating some of life’s most difficult moments.

When children enter foster care, sibling relationships can be a source of great comfort. That’s why Saint Francis works hard to place siblings together whenever possible and to preserve those bonds when that isn’t possible. If siblings need a forever family, we provide support and encourage adoptive families to adopt them together.

Saint Francis envisions a future where every child not only survives but thrives, and thriving is so much easier when you don’t have to do it alone.

This National Siblings Day, let’s remember our own siblings and all the things we share. If you feel called to make a difference for children in need of an open home and an open heart, consider becoming a foster or adoptive parent with Saint Francis Ministries. Together, we can ensure that no child faces tomorrow without someone by their side.
