Like Mothers, Fathers Play an Essential Role in Their Kids’ Lives

“Fathering is not something perfect men do, but something that perfects the man. The end product of child raising is not the child, but the parent.” Frank Pittman

Just as children need a strong, nurturing mother figure, so do they benefit from a strong, nurturing father. Granted, many single mothers have raised happy, well-adjusted children, and they deserve our admiration. But many children also need a responsible male role model to guide, support, encourage, and love them as they grow and mature.

That’s why Saint Francis Ministries offers Fatherhood FIRE free of charge in Kansas, Nebraska and Texas. A federally funded program that teaches parenting skills to fathers, Fatherhood FIRE consists of several courses that include:

  • 24/7 Dad – A skill-building class for fathers
  • The Parent Project – Support for parents of strong-willed/out-of-control children
  • Nurturing Fathers – For fathers with anger or domestic violence history
  • Inside Out Dad – For incarcerated dads
  • Connections to Success – Personal and professional development for men and women

In short, Fatherhood FIRE engages fathers so they can understand just how vital their role is in the development of their children. Sons learn how to treat women from their fathers, and daughters learn from their fathers how they should be treated by men.

Good fathers provide the positive male role models that children need – whether they’re birth fathers, foster dads, kinship fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, or adoptive dads.

And good fathers are the men we celebrate on Father’s Day, the ones that prioritize their kids and who purposely participate in their lives.

If you’re a man who wants to be a great dad – for your kids, for your spouse/partner, for yourself – visit https://saintfrancisministries.org/fatherhood-fire/ to learn how you can acquire the skills you need through Fatherhood FIRE.

Happy Father’s Day to all those wonderful father figures who love the women and kids in their lives. You’re making a big difference.
