A grant for $3,600 will purchase necessary supplies for residential treatment program to support youth, employees in staying safe during pandemic
SALINA – May 14, 2020 – The Greater Salina Community Foundation this week announced that Saint Francis Ministries will receive $3,618.75 to meet needs for Personal Protection Equipment in its Salina West residential facility.
“We are grateful for the leadership displayed by the Greater Salina Community Foundation. This grant that will help us meet recommended safety measures to ensure the health of the youth who live at our residential treatment facility in Salina and also the employees who care for them,” said The Very Rev. Robert N. Smith, dean, president and CEO. “The COVID-19 pandemic has created challenges for many of the vulnerable people who we serve through foster care, reintegration, adoption and in our residential services. Our first concern is always doing whatever is necessary to ensure safe and supportive care.”
Salina West provides essential in-patient treatment for children and youth with severe behavioral and mental health needs, said Jerry Slaight, executive director of residential services.
“Our resources were strained as we acted quickly in March to keep staff and children safe throughout the pandemic,” he said. “This much-appreciated grant will help us manage costs of the deep cleaning and sanitization necessary in the facility and also will meet needs for additional PPE we have ordered.”
Among the PPE being purchased are thermometers, which are used to check staff as they report for shifts and to regularly check residents, surgical face masks and supplies to make masks.
This COVID Nonprofit Support Grant is part of the Greater Salina Community Foundation’s support of local nonprofits who were impacted by the pandemic.
Since 1999, the Greater Salina Community Foundation has been connecting donors with causes they care about, helping them support charitable organizations in Saline County and beyond. As the largest community foundation in Kansas, GSCF is proud to serve 14 affiliate foundations in neighboring communities.
