“Some of the youth have been through very tough times, and it can take time before they learn to trust you,” says Kathy, a Salina West nurse for 14 years. “But they know that you are trying to help them out and I’ve enjoyed watching them grow and return to their homes.
“We work as a team at Salina West, the staff and the nurses,” she adds. “SFM nursing has many different parts that we must keep running smoothly, and it’s important that we all do our part to keep the flow going.
“Why I do what I do? Because nothing is more rewarding than watching those walls come down and seeing a young person walk out the doors of Saint Francis using the tools they have learned,” says Nurse Danielle.
She works with kids surviving trauma – helping them regain trust and build themselves back up so they can go on to lead healthy productive lives. In other words, she helps them find their future. It’s not easy work, but it just might be the most rewarding thing you’ve ever done.
