Fostering In Faith

Often, the most powerful act we can perform on behalf of children is to hold them in our prayers. Unfortunately, many children in need have no one to pray for them. And sometimes the world seems too broken to fix. But Saint Francis believes we can fix the world - or at least our part of it by praying in solidarity for our brothers and sisters, by connecting our empathy to action, and by sharing our resources, our gifts, and ourselves with each other.

Pray

One element of Fostering in Faith with Saint Francis ensures that children looking for “forever families” are remembered and held in prayer.

This loving ministry provides a means through which congregations, religious communities, and individuals can pray for children in need of adoptive families. We know that most congregations have within their fellowship persons to whom God has given a spirit for intercessory prayer. You may be one of those special people.

Each month, Saint Francis sends you or your congregation a photo and brief biography of a child who needs faithful, caring people like you to pray for them. The biography includes a prayer composed to help guide you. Or, you can use your own words. Either way, we ask that you simply include it in your congregation’s Sunday bulletin or distribute it among your members. You can also use it at home. Attach it to your refrigerator or keep in your Bible as a reminder to pray for that month’s child in need.

Each quarter, we’ll send updates on the status of children featured in previous months, so you can learn if they’ve been adopted or if they are still in need of our prayers.

All you have to do is pray. We’ll take care of everything else.

“For this child I prayed; and the LORD has granted me the petition that I made to him.” – 1 Samuel 1:27

Connect

Each of us has a story. It’s our own, yet richly interwoven with relationships and connections. Those connections provide the means to turn a personal story into a shared story.

Some days, it seems the challenges of this world are too overwhelming to solve. And, alone, we can’t. Together, though, we can radically affect the lives of others. We can help heal the broken, comfort the afflicted, and bring hope to the hopeless.

By reaching out to local congregations and church leaders, Saint Francis hopes to build relationships. By connecting, we can collaborate in creative ministries, address local needs, and share insights and experience.

We’ve spoken in churches all over the United States, during the service and over coffee afterwards. We’ve met with entire congregations and with smaller groups within those congregations. Like Jesus, we share our story with all who will listen.

Through our visits to churches, we meet partners to help us solve problems that bring healing and hope to the left behind, the pushed aside, and the victimized.

Like Francis of Assisi, we seek to build relationships, to encourage others to join our journey, and to engage the world together in Jesus’ name.

Invite us to come share the Saint Francis story with you. Share your story with us. Together, let’s begin “our” story.

Give

Giving is an act of grace.

Sometimes, we don’t know where to start. We want to help, we want to make the world better, but we’re not quite sure how. Few of us have the means to serve on the front lines; most of us already have people in our lives in need of our energy and attention. Yet, we know God has blessed us.

Too often we think the world’s problems demand monumental, society-shaking solutions. That’s rarely the case.

It doesn’t take much to make a difference in the life of a brother or sister in need. It simply requires attention and a willingness to give – of our time, of our resources, of ourselves.

Some can give more, some can give less. Just be as generous as you can. Know this, every gift helps. Every gift offers a way to put your values into action and is a gift of grace.

“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” – Hebrews 13:16
