Our Legacy

Founded over 86 years ago as a home for 12 boys.

A black and white photo shows eight boys and one man posing around a sign that reads "St. Francis Boys' Home, Founded 1945." The group stands and kneels on a grassy area with trees in the background. Four boys are standing on the left, two boys and a man in the center, and two boys on the right. One boy is sitting on the ground in front.

Founded 86 years ago by The Reverend Robert Mize Jr., in Ellsworth, Kansas, Saint Francis Boys’ Home served 12 troubled boys in danger of disappearing into the juvenile justice system. Over the years, the scope of our ministry has grown to include a broad range of programs and services in seven states for thousands of children and families. Today, Francis Ministries continues to provide healing, hope, and second chances to those who need it most.

Inspired by that rich legacy, we have established “4 Strategic Pillars” that have supported and guided our vision of transforming lives and systems well into the future:

Access: Through innovation, strategic decision-making, and advocacy efforts, we aspire to open more doors and extend our reach to serve a broader community, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Performance: We remain committed to ensuring that our care meets the diverse needs of everyone we serve by investing in each team member to expand their expertise and by fostering a culture where diversity of thought and experience is celebrated.

Culture: Rooted in the call of Jesus Christ to enrich the lives of others, we value the inherent worth of every person. Those values fuel a culture dedicated to the highest ethical standards, collaborative innovation, mutual respect, and richness in diversity.

Stewardship: With an eye to the future, we cultivate diverse funding streams and actively seek new opportunities in today’s rapidly evolving landscape to support a robust financial foundation.
